The History…

Fairport has been working with the Australian wine and grape industry since 1988 when we were approached by a Hunter Valley winery to develop a vineyard management system. A subsequent program was developed in the early 1990’s which was used by various vineyard managers and the South Australian horticultural and viticultural research stations at Loxton, Nuriootpa and Lenswood.

During the late 1990’s we incorporated the viticulture specific features of those earlier programs into our PAM Ultracrop software. PAM Ultracrop was adopted by many vineyard managers across Australia and as a result of the requests for more and more viticulture specific features, we finally released the PAM Ultracrop – Viticulture Specific version.

In early 2004, Fairport was approached by the Cooperative Research Centre for Viticulture, who had developed the “AusVit” program and were looking for a "good home” for it. We agreed to be that “good home” and a joint venture partnership resulted. We decided to call the new joint program PAM AusVit. PAM Ausvit was released in July 2004. Read more about PAM AusVit here…

Later that year we were approached by the Grape and Wine Research and Development Corporation and the Victorian Department of Primary Industry to commercialise their Grape Forecaster technology. Again, this resulted in a joint venture. The new Grape Forecaster software was released in October 2004. Grape Forecaster ships with FREE Palm and PocketPC data entry software (“Grape Sampler”) for in-the-vineyard sampling.

In 2005 Fairport Farm Software and Farmscan jointly released a FREE light weight spray diary system for viticulture: QALink. QALink produces reports to meet the requirements of the Australian Wine Industry.
